Why I Created Journey Through Menopause: My Story

A woman with a backpack walks along a peaceful landscape, silhouetted against a breathtaking sunset sky, symbolizing her journey through menopause.
A blurred close-up of the word "Why?" printed in black on a white background, capturing a sense of inquiry and introspection.

I created this website because of my own personal experience with menopause, an experience that left me overwhelmed, unheard, and searching for real answers. Like so many women, I found myself navigating confusing symptoms, a lack of reliable information, and dismissive responses from the very people I turned to for help.

The Symptoms That Took Over My Life

My menopause journey hit fast and hard. It started with irregular periods, then missed periods, and suddenly extremely heavy bleeding lasting over 15 days. Before I could even make sense of that, the hot flushes arrived.

These weren’t mild waves of heat. They were intense, full-body sweats that had me changing shirts multiple times a day and keeping cold cloths tucked around my neck at work, trying to stay functional and professional.

A Doctor’s Visit That Left Me in Tears

Eventually, I booked an appointment hoping for answers, reassurance, or at least a plan. Instead of my regular GP, I saw an older female locum. Her response was blunt and dismissive:

“It’s probably menopause. I’ll put you on birth control. Take it for a couple of years, then stop. If you don’t get a period, you’re in menopause.”

That was it. No real explanation, no support, no discussion of what I was experiencing.

I walked out, went home, and burst into tears. I felt completely unheard.

Trying to Cope, Still Struggling

Birth control regulated my periods, but the hot flushes barely changed. On top of everything, I began experiencing brain fog, fatigue, and muscle/joint pain. The idea of “just dealing with it” felt impossible.

That’s when I reached out to a dietitian and a registered nurse for help. After reviewing bloodwork and discussing my symptoms, the RN expressed disappointment at how I had been dismissed. We talked about HRT, and the following month, I made the switch.

It was the right decision for ME. My periods improved. The hot flushes eased. My brain fog lifted. The joint and muscle pain lessened.

Realizing I Wasn’t Alone

As I shared my story with other women, one thing became clear: this wasn’t just my experience. So many of us are being dismissed, ignored, or told to just “ride it out.”

Too many women are struggling in silence, without guidance, support, or evidence-based information.

And that’s when something clicked.

Turning My Experience into Support for Others

I decided that instead of simply surviving my journey, I wanted to turn it into something meaningful. I enrolled in a menopause coaching course and continue my education with additional training in nutrition coaching and personal training.

With nearly a decade of experience as a Registered Massage Therapist, I knew I could approach menopause support holistically, blending movement, nourishment, symptom support, and real-life experience.

Journey Through Menopause was born from that intention.

This site exists so women don’t have to feel lost, dismissed, or alone. It’s a place where your symptoms are real, your experience matters, and your wellbeing is the priority.
